An Interview: In Conversation with andrea bennett

I sat down a while back and had a conversation with good friend and poet andrea bennett on the wonderful world of submissions. We chatted about acceptance and rejection, and how to bounce back from disappointment. Some poets step onto the scene fully-formed, and I have a suspicion that Amber McMillan is one of these. I reviewed her debut collection We Can't Ever Do This Again for Arc 80, the print copy of which you can pick up from magazine stands now. And if you haven't bumped into McMillan's work yet, I have a feeling you will. She's darned good.

An Interview: Created Here

Summer has got me seriously behind the 8 ball on news, but it's high time I shared a lovely interview I got to have with my good friend and New Brunswick arts aficionado Marie-Hélène Morrell. Marie-Hélène is the founder of Created Here, a directory working to catalogue and connect creative-types from my home province. Her site is gorgeous, and her work is vitally important. In June, she and I had a back-and-forth e-mail conversation that covered everything from day jobs to inspiration. Find it here or by clicking the logo. Glam photographs by the very talented Chris Loh.

In Review: The Year of Our Beautiful Exile

The-Year-of-Our-Beautiful-Exile

The best thing about reviewing is coming across new favourites, and I have a feeling Monica Kidd will achieve such status for me. I reviewed her latest book The Year of Our Beautiful Exile for Arc, and you can read everything I thought about it here. Also, if you're one of those people who pays close attention to the feel of a book in your hands, this one is a winner. Gaspereau Press makes such beautiful objets d'art.
